How do I open a private web browser window?

Private windows are often helpful and resolve many issues when signing into SIU Systems like D2L or Office 365.

Microsoft Edge – InPrivate Window

Windows / macOS

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “New InPrivate window” from the dropdown menu.

Keyboard Shortcut

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mac: Command (⌘) + Shift + N

Google Chrome – Incognito Mode

Windows / macOS

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose “New Incognito window”.

Keyboard Shortcut

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mac: Command (⌘) + Shift + N

Mozilla Firefox – Private Browsing Mode

Windows / macOS

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click the three-line menu (☰) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “New Private Window”.

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Mac: Command (⌘) + Shift + P

Safari – Private Browsing Window

macOS Only (Safari is not available on Windows)

  1. Open Safari.
  2. In the menu bar at the top, click “File”.
  3. Choose “New Private Window” from the dropdown.
