Adobe Acrobat Pro: Installation

Introduction

Adobe Acrobat Pro includes the Acrobat Pro desktop software and the Acrobat Sign e-signature service. See Adobe Acrobat Sign in Acrobat Pro Basics for an introduction to Acrobat Sign.

Note well: These instructions do not apply to Acrobat Pro “perpetual” licenses such as Acrobat Pro 2020, 2017, and 2015. Perpetual licenses do not include Acrobat Sign.

Sign In or Create Adobe ID

  1. Open https://account.adobe.com/.
  2. Sign in or create an Adobe ID with the SIU email address. If prompted, select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.
  3. If needed, reset or change the Adobe password.

Turn Off Automatic Profile Selection

  1. Open https://account.adobe.com/security.
  2. Sign in the Adobe ID. If prompted, select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.
  3. Scroll down the Sign-in and security page, then turn off the setting named Select my profile automatically.

Activate Acrobat Sign

  1. Open https://secure.echosign.com/public/login.
  2. Enter the SIU email address, then click on or tab to the Password field. Note well: If the “Need an Adobe ID or already have an Adobe ID?” message appears, click the Adobe ID button.
  3. Sign in the Adobe ID. If prompted, select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.

Install Acrobat Pro

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
  1. Uninstall all existing Adobe Acrobat installations, including Acrobat Reader, Acrobat Standard, and Acrobat Pro.
  2. Open https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/starter/acrobat.
  3. Sign in the Adobe ID. If prompted, select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.
  4. Download and install Adobe Acrobat Pro.
University-Owned Device – SIU Carbondale
  • Mac: Coming soon! Use Jamf to install Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Windows: Use Software Center to install Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Activate Acrobat Pro

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Sign out the Adobe ID, if already signed in.
  3. Sign in the Adobe ID. If prompted, select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.
  4. Note well: If the “blue Pac-Man” profile icon appears, then sign out the Adobe ID, turn off automatic profile selection, sign in again, and select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.

Set Adobe Acrobat as Default PDF App

  1. Open a PDF file from File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
  2. If the PDF opens in an app other than Adobe Acrobat, set Adobe Acrobat as the default PDF app.

Verify Digital Signature in Acrobat Pro

  1. Download a form with a digital signature field (for example, an employee timesheet or absence request from https://eforms.siu.edu/).
  2. Open the downloaded form in Adobe Acrobat, not in a web browser.
  3. Click a digital signature field and test signing with each Digital ID.
  4. Note well: Entrust users require Entrust ESP 10 to sign documents in Adobe Acrobat 64-bit. Entrust ESP 9 supports Acrobat 32-bit only.

Verify Acrobat Pro Activation

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Open a Pro tool like Create PDF, Edit PDF, or Export PDF.
  3. If the “You do not have access to this feature” message appears, then sign out the Adobe ID, turn off automatic profile selection, sign in again, and select the Southern Illinois University – All Campus profile.

Verify Acrobat Sign Activation

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Open the Request E-signatures tool.
    • If using the new Acrobat user interface, open the hamburger menu (stack of three horizontal lines), then select Request e-signatures.
    • If using the legacy Acrobat user interface, open the E-Sign menu, then select Request E-signatures.
  3. Select a file and complete the form to send out an agreement for e-signature.
