No Departmental Purchase Required

Microsoft Office 365 desktop app licenses are automatically assigned to the following, no departmental purchase required:

1. Active Employee (Human Resources has received and entered a current contract)
   • Administrative/Professional (AP)
   • Civil Service (CS)
   • Civil Service Extra Help (EH)
   • Faculty (FA)
   • Restricted Term Appointment (RTA)
   • Volunteer (VOL)
2. Active Student (currently enrolled in classes)
   • CESL
   • Graduate/Professional
   • Undergraduate
3. Teams Calling Phone Service
   • Any customer assigned a University phone number with Teams Calling service, excluding Common Area phones.

Departmental Purchase Required

Microsoft Office 365 desktop app licenses are assigned to the following upon departmental purchase:

3. Out-of-Band (OOB) ID
   • AD Elevated Account
   • AD Service Account
   • Custom Person Account
   • Department ID

   • Visiting Scholar Account

These academic programs distribute Microsoft developer tools like Access, Project, Visio, and Visual Studio Pro directly to their faculty and students:

INSTALL MICROSOFT OFFICE

1. Uninstall all previous Microsoft Office installations, then restart your computer.
2. Click the INSTALL MICROSOFT OFFICE button above.
3. Sign in with your @siu.edu.
4. Click Install Office.
5. Open the downloaded installer and follow the installation prompts.
6. If licensed for Project 365 by departmental purchase, then click Install Project and open the downloaded installer.
7. If licensed for Visio 365 by departmental purchase, then click Install Visio and open the downloaded installer.

Update Office License (Mac)

When a Microsoft 365 license is upgraded or restored, use the Refresh License button to update your Office 365 apps license.

1. Open an Office 365 app like Word.
2. Select the Word menu.
3. Select About Microsoft Word.
4. Click More Info….
5. Click Refresh License.
6. Sign in again with your @siu.edu.
7. Close and re-open the app.

Update Office License (Windows)

When a Microsoft 365 license is upgraded or restored, use the Update License button to update your Office 365 apps license.

1. Open an Office 365 app like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
2. Go to the Home screen and click Update License. If the button is missing, update or re-install Office 365.
3. Sign in again with your @siu.edu.
4. Close and re-open the app.

Sign Out Everywhere

Office 365 may be installed and activated “on up to 5 desktops/laptops, 5 tablets, and 5 mobile devices.” Upon reaching the activation limit, sign out of previous installations to release activations for additional installations.

Sign Out Everywhere

1. Sign out of and close all Microsoft Office apps:
   • Access (Windows only)
   • Excel
   • OneNote
   • Outlook
   • PowerPoint
   • Publisher (Windows only)
   • Word
2. Click the SIGN OUT EVERYWHERE button above.
3. Sign in with your @siu.edu.
4. Click Sign out everywhere.
5. Click OK.
6. Re-open a Microsoft Office app and sign in again with your @siu.edu.
