These instructions apply to Windows computers owned by SIU Carbondale.
1. Connect the computer to the campus Ethernet (wired) network or eduroam (WiFi) network. * Remote workers must be signed in to the SIU Virtual Private Network (VPN) to install.
2. Click an Install with Software Center link from the software list below. * If the install link does not load, then connect to AC power, disable automatic system sleep, and stay connected to the campus network for several hours, especially for computers that have been offline or off campus.
3. Click Install. * If you see an Uninstall button, then the software is already installed.
Click the Start button, then type “Control Panel” in the search bar, navigate to “Network and Internet” > “Network and Sharing Center”, and then select “Change adapter settings” from the left pane.
Right click on the active Ethernet Adapter and click properties. (This will require admin access)
Check that “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” is checked ✅
Check Free Disk Space
Verify the C: drive has at least 10 GB of free disk space.
If prompted during installation, free up additional disk space.
Check Windows Version
Verify the Windows version is supported:
Windows 11, Version 24H2
Windows 11, Version 23H2
Windows 11, Version 22H2
Windows 10, Version 22H2
Close Blocking Applications
If prompted during installation, close any open applications that are blocking installation.
Connect to Campus Network
Connect the computer to the campus Ethernet (wired) network or eduroam (WiFi) network.
Stay connected to the campus network for several hours to automatically refresh an out-of-date software catalog, especially for computers that have been offline or off campus.
Try to force a refresh:
Open Control Panel.
Open Configuration Manager properties, then click the Actions tab.
Select the Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle action, then click Run Now.
Select the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle action, then click Run Now.
Wait ~5 minutes, then re-open Software Center.
Restart Computer
Restart the computer to clear pending restarts and sign out disconnected users.
Login and open Software Center to retry the installation.
If “Software Center can not be loaded” appears, click OK, wait a few minutes, then open Software Center again.
