Adding a Sharp Printer to a Personal Computer

Overview

This article is intended to serve as a guide for those who wish to use the sharp printers with a personal computer
not owned or managed by SIU.

You will need the IP address for the printer in order to add it. If you do not have this, please contact Salukitech or your LAN admin.
You will also need to have admin access to your computer in order to install the software and drivers.

Windows

Click on the link below. fill out all three categories with the information provided below.

File Type: Drivers & Utilities

Click Download.

Select the OS

Then select the PCL6 / PS / PPD Drivers option.

Go to downloads and open & run the downloaded file.

We will select Custom Installation.

Select Specify the MFP IP address.

Type in the printer IP [131.230.xxx.xxx] address here and leave the rest of the options as default. We don’t want to change those settings.

In the text filters box, type in your printer product name.

The driver setting page only check the first box.

Check the Run the Autoconfiguration box before selecting Next.

You have successfully added the printer to a non-SIU Windows computer. Click “Finish” to close the window.

Mac OSX

Click on the link below. fill out all three categories with the information provided below.

Click Download.

Select your version of OSX

Then select the PCL6 / PS / PPD Drivers option.

Go to downloads and open & run the downloaded file.

This will be a basic install. The file name may look different, but it still is the same.

Select continue until you reach the License Agreement screen and click Agree

Next, select Install.
NOTE: You will be asked to enter in your password here. This password is for your local (admin) account, and not your SIU password.

Click close; you may move the downloaded file to the trash can.

Go to System Preferences

Locate Printers & Scanners

Click the + in the lower left of the screen.

At the top of the new window, click the Globe icon.

Enter the IP of the printer you are adding.

Locating the printer and drivers will take a few seconds or a minute.

You will know when it has found the printer when it shows USE: SHARP BP-“your model here.”

NOTE:
if you need a code to print, change this (#3) to HP socket before clicking add

A new window will open, and if you see Unable to communicate with the printer at this time, Do not click continue. Submit a ticket to Salukitech with the IP and the location. You may click OK to continue if you do not see this message.

Installation is now complete; you should now see the printer.
