Office365 won’t open .ics file

Problem: Windows does not recognize .ics file and won’t open the file with Outlook Desktop App.

Workaround:

Download the .ics file onto a folder.

Drag and drop the .ics file on to the calendar icon on Outlook desktop app.
An appointment editor window will appear and hit save or modify as necessary, and hit Save and Close
