Software Catalog

Use Microsoft Software Center to install common software on SIU-owned Windows PCs. The experience is similar to a mobile app store.

1. Connect to the campus network. Remote workers must be signed in to SIU VPN.
2. Click an Install with Software Center direct link from the table below. Or, open the Software Center app and select an available application from the Applications catalog.
3. Click the Install button.

Install/Uninstall Managed Software

1. Connect to Campus Network

• Connect the computer to the campus Ethernet (wired) network or eduroam (WiFI) network.
• Remote workers must be signed in to the SIU Virtual Private Network (VPN).

2. Open Software Center

• Open the Software Center app from the Windows Start app list or from Windows Search.

3. Install Software

1. Click the Applications tab.
2. Browse and select an available application from the software catalog.
3. Click Install.

4. Uninstall Software

1. Click the Installation Status tab.
2. Browse and select an installed application from the software catalog.
3. Click Uninstall.

Troubleshoot

Connect to Campus Network

• Connect the computer to the campus network.
• Remote workers must be signed in to the SIU Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Check Ethernet Properties

• Click the Start button, then type “Control Panel” in the search bar, navigate to “Network and Internet” > “Network and Sharing Center”, and then select “Change adapter settings” from the left pane.

Right click on the active Ethernet Adapter and click properties. (This will require admin access)

Check that “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” is checked ✅

Out-of-Date Software Catalog

1. Plug in the power cord.
2. Stay connected to the campus network for several hours to automatically refresh an out-of-date software catalog, especially for computers that have been offline or off campus.
3. Try to force a refresh:
   • Open Control Panel.
   • Open Configuration Manager properties, then click the Actions tab.
   • Select the Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle action, then click Run Now.
   • Select the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle action, then click Run Now.
   • Wait ~5 minutes, then re-open Software Center.

Out-of-Date Windows Version

• Verify the Windows version is current:
  • Windows 11, Version 24H2
  • Windows 11, Version 23H2
  • Windows 11, Version 22H2
  • Windows 10, Version 22H2

Blocking Applications

• If prompted, close any open applications that are blocking installation.

Insufficient Free Disk Space

• Verify the C: drive has at least 10 GB of free disk space.
• If prompted, free up additional disk space.

Pending Restarts

1. Restart the computer to clear any pending restarts.
2. Login and wait ~5 minutes.
3. Open Software Center to retry the installation.

Disconnected Users

1. Restart the computer to sign out any disconnected users.
2. Login and wait ~5 minutes.
3. Open Software Center to retry the installation.

Software Center Cannot Be Loaded

• Software Center is briefly unavailable after a computer starts up.
