SIU has provided guidelines for faculty/staff members who must work remotely off campus. The following is the link to HR guidelines for working remotely.

These guidelines provided the rules that apply for working remotely. However, from technical standpoint, there are considerations that have to be made to make remote work possible.

First you’ll want to ensure the following.

  • Make sure that your account is allowed access to the remote computer. If you are unsure on if your account will have access please submit a ticket to SalukiTech.
  • Make sure that the remote computer is turned on.
  • Make sure that there is no network problem. 

How do I remote into my SIU device?

  1. Connect to the VPN
    • You can connect to the VPN utilizing the instructions linked here.
  2. Ensure you have the Windows Remote Desktop App downloaded
    • For Windows
      Visit the Microsoft Store:
      Remote Desktop – Microsoft Store (Windows)
      Click “Get in Store app” to open the Microsoft Store app on your PC.
      Click Install and wait for the installation to complete.
      Once installed, launch the app and sign in if necessary.
      You can now add a PC by clicking + Add and entering the name/IP of the remote machine.

      For macOS
      Step-by-Step:
      Visit the Mac App Store:
      Microsoft Remote Desktop – Mac App Store
      Click Get, then Install (you may need to enter your Apple ID password or use Touch ID).
      Open the app once installed.
      Click Add PC and configure the connection (you’ll need the PC name, user account, etc.).
  3. Configure your desktop connection
    • Username: AD\siu85XXXXXXX
    • Computer name: YYY-ZZZZZZ.ad.siu.edu (if it doesn’t connect at first add :5555 to the end of the computer name)
      • Replace Y’s with the 3-4 letter department abbreviation
      • Replace Z’s with 6 digit asset tag
    • Password: Same as SalukiNet / email / etc.

You can look up your work computer name by going to the search function from the Windows menu and typing in ‘About My PC’. Look for the line that says ‘Full device name’.
